About Avedan

Avedan is a welfare organization that is active in Almelo and surrounding municipalities. The organization offers support in the areas of encounters, volunteering, youth work, informal care and various social projects.

Every year, Avedan reaches thousands of residents and works with municipalities, healthcare institutions, schools and other social partners.

Over the years, many dashboards and reports have been created within Avedan, often from specific projects or departments. While these provided valuable insights, they lacked an overarching data architecture and central storage. This made it difficult to interpret information unambiguously and to use it organization-wide.

Avedan wanted to move towards a situation where data is not only used on a project basis, but can also be used organization-wide to support strategic choices. This meant:

Using the BI Roadmap as a guide, we worked on a data foundation that not only meets current information needs, but is also scalable for the future.

BI/AI Roadmap

With the BI Roadmap, we went through the most important phases to get from fragmented reports to a structured data foundation:

1. Data Strategy: Together, we identified key KPIs and information needs, aligned with Avedan's mission and goals.
2. Inventory & data preparation: We collected all existing dashboards, sources, and definitions and assessed them for relevance, quality, and consistency.
3. Data modeling & architecture: Development of a central data structure that enables reliable and reusable insights.
4. Data warehouse implementation: Setting up and going live of the new data warehouse, including links to existing and future dashboards.

With this foundation, Avedan can focus more quickly and better on results, substantiate the social impact and further expand data-driven work.
